Monday

Not a lot to report today, Woke at Treasure Island, checked out by 10am, bought consumables for the trip to LA (CD's & Chex mix..) then hit the road...

The long way to LA..

It''s a bloody long way to LA.. well, its only about 300 miles, but it feels further, what a boring road I-15 is.. I went the same route that RK and I used last week on the way to the Madonna Inn, which includes a trip down the "Deathtrap Highway" I guess it's a dangerous road because it's single lane, but undulates up & down so you can't tell if there's anything coming the other way.. only a problem if you try overtaking a truck, and as nice as the 'stang is, it doesn't quite have the grunt to whip past things safely so I just ambled along..

I arrived in LA slap bang in the middle of the rush hour, or "Six lanes of jittery hell" these people are nuts,  they're trying to  crack the rush hour conundrum by building wider & wider roads, end result: you keep moving but it's chaos.. I think I prefer the UK's single file 2mph crawl, at least you don't have to have the eyes & reflexes of a housefly to avoid the lane weavers..

I got to my hotel about 5:30, I called Pip, we decided to head into Hollywood at about 6:15, get some food & then head on to this evening entertainment, as luck would have it one of my favorite bands "The Tiger Lillies" are in town tonite, so after an In-n-Out burger (mmm)  we went to the club. I also tried to call my friend Roberta, who thoughtfully emailed me her phone number yesterday, which I promptly deleted when I deleted all the other messages I'd read,  I am sooo stupid. Soz Bert.

The Tiger Lillies were scheduled to play 2 shows, but as both audiences added together wouldn't fill the venue they just played one long show & let the early comers stay late.. so in the end they did about 4 sets, and were as expected excellent.. the song about having sex with flies (Complete with mannequin flys) left the Black LA gang member type bouncer people looking be-mused.. then they got onto the one about shagging sheep (complete with blow up & mechanical sheeps..) and the poor chaps were totally confused.. The song about Lady Di's car crash was accompanied by a remote controlled Mercedes with a blonde Barbie doll crammed in the window zipping around the stage & finally crashing off the front into the audience, tasteless? nah... hilarious. They managed to hold off on the Shockheaded Peter stuff only doing "Snip Snip" in the 3rd encore... I bought the 2 remaining TL CD's that I don't have already for something to listen to during tomorrows looong drive back to Death Valley.. I also had a nice chat with the Drummer, what a splendid chap he turned out to be..  I just read this paragraph back and those not familiar with the Tiger Lillies must think I'm nuts to like this stuff.. I didn't even mention that they're just an accordion playing singer who sings in a high castrato, double bass, & small drum kit.. playing mainly waltzes & polkas..   It's a long way from Motorhead.

Now it's 12:40am & I'm tired..  tomorrow I might be going to Magic Mountain for my first giant roller coaster experience, or maybe I wont.. we'll see...

G'nite!

To Day 10.. lots of sitting around
