Day three was the first time we managed to get on the road, following a hearty breakfast and a quick stop to buy a map (plan a route? heck that hadn`t occurred to me...) we said our thanks (which were much deserved, Rebecca excelled herself and we are eternally grateful..) and left New York City.
We took the Tricounty Bridge and headed north on the Triconic State Parkway.. a real pretty road, (this statement has since caused much merriment amongst my American friends..)the weather has cooled and it was a pleasant drive up to Albany, home of the GNHN.. (Later in our visit he told us what this stands for... but he has a wife and child now so I`m not saying...)
We arrived at around 4pm, met up with GNHN, Mrs HN and Small Urchin, a spot of "Find Waldo" with Urch and an introduction to the house Iguana filled the rest of the Afternoon. In the evening we went out for pizza and Ice Cream, I made the mistake of ordering a real conspicuous red confection that marked me out as an obvious tourist, ...I had to follow the car home on foot...[Roadtrip rule No.1: you must protect your hosts local reputation at all costs..].
On the way home GNHN took us past Nipper the RCA dog.. he looked sad and lonely on top of a run down market-place... (The dog not GN...) oh, and someone has stolen his gramophone player.. and we claim to be civilised..
To round off the day we sat, talked, and cured the worlds problems.. you can find the new rules for life posted at your local post office..
Until tomorrow dear reader, ever yours..
Back to intro..
Onward ..tomorrow is another day!
