We woke up tired and emotional on Saturday....
luckily America has a cure for this
syndrome: "Two eggs Virginia Steak, Homefries and toast please.." thus the
refreshed English folk strode out to meet the day..
The kindly Andrew F had offered to drive us to Newark to pick up our hire car so we all piled into "The Love Bug" (I`m sure that's what he called it... ) cranked the Air Conditioning and headed out into the first traffic jam of the day.. then the 2nd.. then the 3rd.. then one on the top of a bridge.. luckily when the car died we were on the down side of the bridge so we could use momentum instead of human labour to jump start the car.. brush with abandonment over we headed on into "The car jacking centre of the US" (Tour-guides description..) sunny Newark!
If you ever need to find the Alamo outlet in Newark NJ drop me a line and I`ll tell you how to find it.. "Drive around for a couple of hours until you stumble upon it" there, simple huh? much easier than "Find it at the airport" or "Oh, it`s next to the Marriott.." the blasted place is harder to find than Michael Jacksons teeny love shack in the Swiss Alps.. (Which for a small renumeration I can also locate for you...)
Car hired we drove back into Manhattan, the original plan was to head for Coney Island but it was getting late so we went hunting for a Tibetan handicraft store that Andrew had heard about, but we failed (starting to see a pattern yet?) and so we had Mexican food instead.. ("When at a lose end eat Mexican" as my old gran used to say..)
Andrew headed home, and you can`t blame the guy as he`d been working until 2am the night before..
We re-grouped at Rebeccas place (Code for "had a nap") and as we`re both still a tad jetlagged ourselves decided to hit a movie, if you haven't seen it yet go check-out "Clueless" I loved this film! a straight forward in your face no-nonsense comedy ("Two thumbs up" - P. McCartney).
Some Yodels (A sourece of nourishment to late night Americans so we`re told) later and a pause to type this message and I`m ready for bed.. not much accomplished tourist-wise today, but we have a car and the highway beckons...
GNHN, clean the kid and prime the missus... we`re comin` to dinner...
