Boston to Home..

Don`t you just hate alarm clocks? Ours went off at 7am a horrid enough time even if you`re not on holiday... but it was an evil we had to live with if we were to get to the air

This has been a fun 2 weeks, we`ve met up with a slew of Rocknetters all of whom went out of their ways to make our visit pleasant, extra points go to Rebecca and GNHN for letting us stay in their houses.. heck Rebecca had even stocked up with candy before we got there! You don`t get that service in a Holiday Inn..

Come to that you don`t even get free local phone calls in a Holiday Inn.. which brings me to the thorny problem of logging on whilst on your hols... we sampled eight different motel chains, only half of them had data ports for the modem.. these were Days Inn, Travel-lodge, Holiday Inn and the Swiss Gasthouse in Ottawa, all the rest of the places (Except the Knights Inn) had plug in phones so it wasn`t a problem.. at Knights Inn we used sellotape and nail sissors made the required adjustment. if I had to recommend a motel chain it would be Comfort Inn, an average of $55 per night to stay there and -free- local calls, we found a CIS node local to all the motels we stayed in so even conferencing is possible at a Comfort Inn.. There is a piece of shareware in the CIS libs called "Find CIS" you just tell it where you are and if it has to dial a prefix (ie 9) to get a line on a hotel phone system and it launches WinCIM with the correct number.. very useful, whats more you get a 30 day trial period so as our trip was only 2 weeks I`m happy... (the program has since been registered.. honest..)

The States that surprised us most were Wisconsin/Illinois, -TONS- to do... we only scratched the surface of the things we found to do there, couple that to a jacuzzi equipped motel room 1 min from a Dennys and 2 mins from a Drive in Cinema and you have the launch pad for fun! ...we were so wrapped up in the place we didn`t even get time to pop in on Thread Creep.. (Sorry Threaders!) but we -will- be back! ....besides who can go to House on the Rock only once?

Tamsin thinks we did too much driving and not enough sun-bathing (not to mention shopping...) and I guess on the driving front she`s right, I personally don`t much care for the latter two.. we were on Holiday and not on a dedicated roadtrip after all and considering that, I guess we didn`t do enough actual holidaying.. (whatever that is..) for the fact find ers amongst you we did two countries 2 provinces and 11 states in 9 days.. 2573 miles in all (we didn`t hit the road until day 4). I think next time we will stay in 2 maybe 3 places and drive out in different directions from there leaving time to slob out in comfort.

So thats it, .....until next time.
