Janurary

  • Sweet - Teenage Rampage
  • Mud - Tiger Feet
Sweet hit the nail right on the head, this song appeals to the teenage rebel in all of us ... and if it doesn't please leave this page now and get back to your Oasis records.. you obviously don't understand rock'n'roll.

Muds biggest hit.. complete with stolen dance steps (Stolen from the Shadows).

Febuary

  • Alice Cooper - Teenage Lament '74
  • Suzi Quatro - Devil Gate Drive
  • Marc Bolan - Teenage Dream (Note first solo hit..)
  • Alvin Stardust - Jealous Mind
  • David Bowie - Rebel Rebel
Fake Glam:
  • Bay City Rollers - (Sha-La-La-La)
Alice Cooper, gives us another prime slice of teen angst.. "Is this the only way to get through my teens.."

Bolan has his first solo hit.. a portent of things to come.

Alvin Stardust, still skating close to the fake glam zone... (Only the twangy guitar is keeping him here..)

Bowie just OOZES SEX!

Some people would put BCR into the proper section.. but this is glam ROCK isn't it? I don't recall BCR having 'b' sides of a heavier nature (ala' Sweet) or doing anything remotely worthwhile in the overall scheme of things.. This is pap, and pap it will stay.

March

  • The Glitter Band - Angel Face
Fake Glam:
  • Barry Blue- School Love
The Glitter Band step out from behind Gary and have a hit that sounds just like the Glitter Band.. top stuff!

Sorry Barry, after a good (great?) start he's revealed as the cash-in lightweight he really is.. shame.

April

  • Slade - Everyday (First Slade Ballad.. beginning of the end..)
  • Mud - The Cat Crept In
  • Mott The Hoople - The Golden Age Of Rock'n'Roll
Ok, pay attention now... Slade have just released a ballad.. this is an important development.. people will copy and they will mess it up.. can you imagine Alvin Stardust getting away with a ballad? nope, I thought not..

Mud are still happily riding the Chinnichap wave..

Mott The Hoople realise where they are.

May

  • Gary Glitter - Remember Me This Way
  • Rubettes - Sugar Baby Love
  • Sparks - This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us
Fake Glam:
  • Bay City Rollers - Shang-a-Lang
  • Alvin Stardust - Red Dress
Gary Glitter announces retirement.. Death knoll rings for glam.. well, the first wave anyway, look whats coming!:

The Rubettes don their jaunty white caps polish their super white teeth and release this KILLER record!

Sparks (The brothers Mael) move to the UK, find a band from the Melody Makers classifed section - and make a classic album (Kimono My House) which leads off with this song.. Elton John bet the producer this would NEVER be a hit.. and that dear Elton, is why you're fake glam and Sparks are still cool 30 years later, however, when I met them, they were too cool to be nice..

BCR again.. every generation has its "Take That". And Alvin loses that Credible 2% that was keeping him in the cool section.. did you know he does Glam Rock revival shows now wearing "joke" wigs and boots.. very ironic Alvin, very "90's" ..utter shite.

June

  • Cockney Rebel - Judy Teen
  • Gary Glitter - Always Yours
  • Cozy Powell - The Man In Black
  • Arrows - A Touch Too Much
Cockney rebel jump on the bandwagon, a touch fey, very pretentious.. but actually quite good..

Gary Glitter gets on the come back trail (he's still on it, oops, no he's not, for "trail" read "trial", who knew in 1974 it would all end in a Taiwanese Jail??)

Don't know much about "Arrows" suffice to say this record is great!

July

  • Slade - Bangin' Man
  • Suzi Quatro - Too Big
  • Sweet - The Six Teens
  • Rubettes - Tonight
  • Sparks - Amateur Hour
Everyone treading water, except Sweet & Sparks who follow up their debut hit with a fine piece of shrieking stomp, "Girls grow tops to go topless in, While we sit and count the hairs that blossom from our chins, Our voices change at a rapid pace I could start a song a tenor and then end as bass" - Gen-i-us - .. The Sweet are still talking to my soul with this fine teen anthem.. where were you in '68? er.. junior school.. why do you ask?
August

  • Mud - Rocket
  • The Glitter Band - Just For You
  • Cozy Powell - Na Na Na
Fake Glam:
  • Bay City Rollers - Summer Love Sensation
  • Showaddywaddy - Rock'n'Roll Lady
Last hit for Cozy.. (until the central reservation)

BCR go on to be the years best selling group ...after "The Wombles."

Showaddywaddy get included on all Glam Rock compilation albums, but they're really a rock'n'roll revival act, they came to fame on a TV talent show.. not cool guys.

September

  • Cockney Rebel - Mr Soft
  • David Bowie - Knock On Wood
Fake Glam:
  • Alvin Stardust - You You You
Cockney Rebel still fey, Bowie doing another cover version.. something he does real well..

you you you ....fool.

October

  • Slade - Far Far Away
  • Glitter Band - Lets get Together Again
Fake Glam:
  • Elton John - The Bitch Is Back
2nd ballad from Slade.. the writings on the wall..

Dunno why the Glitter Band want Gary back, they're having more hits than him at this point..

November

  • David Essex - Gonna Make You A Star
  • Sparks - Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth
  • Suzi Quatro - The Wild One
  • Rubettes - Juke Box Jive
  • Gary Glitter - Oh Yes You're Beautiful
  • Hello - Tell Him
Great month eh?

Six classy releases.

December

  • Mud - Lonely This Christmas
Jealous of Slade & Wizzard's triumph last year Mud try for it with this pastiche Elvis number.. dreadful!

Towards the end of glam:
