Some very very sad news in the Devant camp came through. My dear dear friend Patrick Welch took his own life last Friday. Patrick is the voice at the beginning of Lie Detector that says "Vessel its Jet Boy". We shared a studio together in Bloomsbury and he introduced me to some great music that shaped the Devant sound ­ Magazine,Van Der Graff Generator, Julian Cope, early Genesis... Patrick was a spectral roadie for one gig in derby ( I think) where the only audience member was the A&R man from U2's mother records. He also stood in for Foz when we did the Select interview and as a result was recognised on the street in Chicago where he moved to and was living as a successful artist and lecturer with his wife and two lovely boys. Jet Boy was a true kindred spirit and a gentle soul. I love him and I know we will all miss him Enormously. - Vessel - 23-Oct-2008
