Wow, what a great page! I bought my Breadwinner in about 1979, and still have it today. I had semi-retired it, but an unusual combination of coincidences, including finding your page, convinced me to use it at my next show. Mine is one of the sky blue ones, essentially identical to the one whose photo you have on your page (I nicked the same photo to use in lieu of my actual "axe," pardon the pun, on my own current band's page). The guitar was so striking I saw it from a moving car, in the window of a pawn shop!

Regarding the Breadwinner coincidences, first, I had just checked out a book from the local library, and it contained a photo of Robert Smith playing a Breadwinner when he subbed on an early Siouxsie & the Banshees tour, taken October 9, 1979. I have attached a scan of the photo (with some of the blank space cropped out). Then last night, here in the States there was a documentary on public television on Bob Marley, and one of the other Wailers (either Bunny Wailer or Peter Tosh, I believe the latter) was shown playing a Breadwinner. Finding your page was the third coincidence in almost as few days, and they say third time pays for all.

Anyhow, I have also attached a couple photos from the early 80's when my Breadwinner was my main guitar. I also have a photo of my guitar being played by a fellow named George Tabb, but it isn't scanned yet. At the time Tabb was in an unknown local band called the Roach Motel in my "hometown" of Gainesville Florida. Our bassist was also the Roaches' drummer, and after we finished playing a party one night the Roaches asked if they could play a quick set on our equipment. George subsequently went on to write a column in MaximumRockNRoll, the granddaddy of American punk rock zines, and form a NY punk band called Furious George. He is something of a minor celebrity on the national punk scene over here, and even played guitar in the CBGB's scene in the movie "Summer of Sam." The photos from this band date from 1983-85. The main page for these shots is my page for the band the Atomics, HERE:

A recent (though not current) photo of my guitars, including the Breadwinner, is at: HERE

I know this is more info than you would want, and that you probably don't want to use any of the photos, since they have people in them. But I thought you might get a kick out of them. BTW, technical question, do you know whether the original version of the pickups [with screwheads on one side like a traditional humbucker, and weird little angled deals opposite them; see the pics of mine or the blue one already on your site] are humbuckers? Were the changes merely cosmetic (versus the 2 sets of holes on later models), or was there a re-design that accompanied them?

Again, thanks for your page!

Cheers,

BK
